CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

​Ballet Tap Combo Class

Foster a love of movement in your child with this fun and energetic class. Lessons consider students’ attention spans and keeps them happily engaged while learning to translate music to movement. Interaction is consistent and incorporates a high level of praise to promote a strong sense of accomplishment. Hour class is comprised of a half hour of tap and a half hour of ballet.

Princess Ballet

Focusing on Ballet technique, this class will develop your child’s coordination as well as an understanding of dance concepts and terminology. Through this enjoyable educational experience, students will learn to use dance as a creative means of self-expression. Dance concentration is on vocabulary, alignment and proper execution of movement and memorization and independence through sequential tasking.

​Hip-Hop Tap Combo Class

​This class introduces a structured environment while allowing children to recognize their own individuality and body mobility. Focus is on coordination and rhythm introduced in creative and imaginative ways. Keeping students entertained while learning beginning dance skills will help them to acquire a lifelong love for dance. Hour class is comprised of a half hour of tap and a half hour of hip hop.

Ballet I

This class is the student’s first introduction to formal ballet class structure. More advanced stretching and strengthening exercises are given, barre work is introduced with a greater emphasis on vocabulary and French terminology. Musicality continues to be emphasized along with balance and coordination through the strengthening of the body core. Center floor work is introduced with continued focus on the positions of the arms, legs and feet using classical ballet vocabulary.

Ballet II and III

Advanced stretching and strengthening exercises are given, barre work is continued with a greater emphasis on vocabulary and French terminology. Musicality continues to be emphasized along with balance and coordination through the strengthening of the body core. Center work is introduced with continued focus on the positions of the arms, legs and feet using classical ballet vocabulary.

​Ballet IV and V

​Requirements: Minimum 2-3 years of ballet training. By instructor placement only! The advanced level challenges the student with more complex combinations at the barre and in the center. The student will work on fluidity of movement, balance, and combinations.

Pointe and Pre-Pointe

​Pointe:

Dancing on pointe is the act of standing on the tips of the toes while performing steps from ballet. Also known as pointe work, it is performed using hard–toed and stiff-shanked pointe shoes. Dancing on pointe requires strength and skill, so prior permission from instructor is required before students begin taking pointe classes. Two ballet classes are required along with pointe class.

Pre-Pointe:

​This class is dedicated to teaching pointe fundamentals to students of the appropriate age and technical ability. Because of the risk of injury, students must be physically ready so one complete dance year of pre-pointe and a pointe evaluation is required before advancement to pointe class. The pointe evaluation allows teachers and students the opportunity to see where the student needs work in order to prepare for pointe. The evaluation focuses on legs (straightness and strength), feet (flexibility, strength, alignment, and shape), ankles (strength and straightness), and overall body alignment.

Lyrical

A beautiful dance form implementing ballet, modern and jazz techniques to express the lyrics of songs; flowing, graceful, emotional and inspirational. Develop strength and flexibility while acquiring solid dance technique. MUST be enrolled in ballet.

Jazz

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Jazz dance can take on many different characteristics and styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway, Contemporary and Lyrical. Jazz classes can be patterned in any of these styles or a combination of them. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style. Each level of jazz is a continuation of the previous level and increases in difficulty. See instructor for appropriate level.

​Hip Hop I

This class will introduce young students’ to the basic vocabulary and style of hip hop movement. Hip Hop is about personal style and expression. This high energy class can be taught to anyone with a passion to move, so no dance experience is required.

Hip Hop II

This class will continue to build on vocabulary and style of hip hop movement. Hip Hop is about personal style and expression. This high energy class can be taught to anyone with a passion to move. This class contains more advanced choreography and break dancing movement.

Tap

​The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies. See instructor for appropriate level.

Teen/Adult Open

Our teen/adult program is specifically designed for dancers ages 18 and over. Classes are intended to be non-intimidating and are conducted in a comfortable environment.

Adult Ballet

Adult students will learn the fundamentals of classical ballet vocabulary and technique focusing on the development of technical skills, coordination, discipline, and correct body alignment.

​Adult Tap

Tap is a rhythmic and compelling form of dance. From it soft shoe roots to it's modern hoofing popularity, Tap dance is a timeless classic. Our Tap dance program follows the progressive flow of tap and encompasses steps from the origins of tap to modern percussive tap.

​Adult Hip Hop

​This exciting class teaches fundamental steps of one of the most popular dance forms in existence! Set to the latest trends in urban music, students learn footwork, break dancing, poppin', and freestyle dance movements, as influenced by some of today's hottest television shows and music videos.
